The Plume Agate Outline Pendant. Made from hallmarked, forged Sterling Silver and set with a huge irregularly cut cabochon of Plume Agate and a smaller Pistachio-shaped cabochon of Koroit Boulder Opal.

One day I was scrolling through Facebook and I found a chap through a lapidary group who had rough slabs of Plume Agate for sale and they were so beautiful I just had to buy one. Once it arrived, I was over the moon with the play of colour and the vibrancy of the piece, so I cut it up into smaller shapes and began.

I had been cabbing (making cabochons – not driving a taxi) for a few months at this point and wanted to try something just a but different, so here was the opportunity. I had already cut the shape but decided that rather than round all the sides and edges of this piece I would ‘barrel-shape’ it instead. So, the piece has rounded sides and sheer ones. When it was done it sat in a bag for a while and I got it out occasionally wondering what to make with it.

Some weeks later a worked on a piece of Koroit Boulder Opal and once I had that finished it just seemed to marry so very well with the Plume Agate, so this pendant is what came about. Also, the piece of Agate is held on a frame as the back is as beautiful as the front, so nothing of its beauty is hidden.

This pendant is 40mm tall, 50mm wide and 9mm deep.
