Chocolate Sapphire Menhir Gaping Earrings
Chocolate Sapphire Menhir Gaping Earrings
Made from hallmarked, forged Sterling Silver and part 24ct gilded. Each earring is articulated and set with a Rose-cut Chocolate Sapphire.
With a lot of gems I buy, I have them for some time before I actually use them. I am something of a Magpie and shiny colourful things catch my attention easily…. So, I usually have a stock of gems awaiting use.
This was the case with these Chocolate Sapphires. I had never really been drawn to Rose-cut gems and not really gems of this colour, but when I saw these, I knew I had to get some. So about six months later I was sketching out designs for earrings and rootling through my gems I came across of pouch of these and knew they were perfect for a few new Menhir items.
I’d made a couple of pairs of Menhir earrings before, but I thought it would be nicer still if they were articulated, so gem-set above near the earlobe with a dangly bit below. As I was now experimenting with 24ct gold vermeil work I thought the gold on the bottom piece could really show off the chocolate colour of the gem well. So, as if often the case I spent a few hours sketching and leaving the sketch aside for a day of two then eventually came back to it and ended up with shapes that felt were right for the cut of the gems.
And so, you have it – earrings that have the feeling of delicious, unwrapped chocolate.
These earrings are 43mm tall, 18mm wide and 6mm deep.
