Made from oxidised forged, hallmarked Sterling Silver. This ring is set with a pillow-shaped cabochon of stripey, chatoyant Yellow Tiger Eye.

I have always loved Tiger Eye – I used to own a huge slab of it many decades ago that I had received as a gift, and I used it as a door stop. As it happens, I got another smaller chunk given to me as a birthday gift only a few years ago and this is more of a large paperweight in size. I had thought I might cut some off that piece to use in jewellery making but, in the end, decided to leave it as it was and buy an all together smaller piece and cut and polish that – and part of that rough gem is what you see in this ring.

The Third of the Menhir Open Rings and like the Swirl Rhyolite one, the sterling silver is finished with a dark slate gray (almost black) oxidation. The Tiger Eye I decided to cut so that there were as many bands of colour across the gem as possible for its size. Like most other Menhir Open Rings this is not small in scale – it’s what we refer to as a ‘Cocktail Ring’ – big and making a statement and saying, ‘look at me’: Why shouldn’t and why shouldn’t the wearer – I have to admit I like wearing showy jewellery myself.

This ring is 37mm tall, 31mm wide and 25mm deep.
