I designed this, well the basics of this, necklace back in 2019, but I never pursued the idea until 2022.

Basically, I was flicking through old sketchbooks looking for ideas I had already part hatched and came across this. I had initially intended to make the necklace entirely from sterling silver, but I had recently been working with some Mokume Gane and felt it would definitely enhance the whole piece - plus gilding part of the silver with 24ct Gold Vermeil would add a further touch of luxury.

Then, what gemstones? I looked at these Hessonite Garnets, some Blue and some Orange Kyanites and even some Ethiopian Fire Opals that I had in stock. In the end (as you can see) I went with the Garnets.

The necklace is fitted together on the back so the the ‘plates’ or Menhir all overlap and are then suspended with forged chain through to a round hook and staple at the back of the neck. I wasn’t totally sure how long this should be, but it can be shortened or indeed extended if the wearer wishes.
