Bespoke Jewellery

“David’s jewellery is great art and like great sex it should not be just comfortable!” - Lola K

NEW COMMISSIONS

I would be delighted to create for you a wonderful piece of jewellery. I usually work in Sterling Silver, 18ct Gold or Mokume Gane as the base meterials, but I also use Aurora Opal that comes in a myriad of colours (here’s a link to see how glorious this is) and other materials such as Whitby Jet and Pearl.

As well as the materials above, any of those can be set with gemstones from Agates to Zircons with so many other alternatives in between – the choice is almost endless, the result will be totally unique.

HOW DO i commission a piece of jewellery?

Bespoke, commissioned, jewellery begins with a chat followed by me creating some initial sketches derived from that discussion.

I’ll send these sketches to you and from your feedback they will then be amended and reworked as needed over a few weeks. Once we’ve settled on the design, materials and geme (or not) from those sketches I’ll create a final coloured drawing that we call a Render. This render will be a scale drawing of the final design and will be the closest to the finished, physical article that I can produce, so you’ll be able to see what you are commissioning.

Bespoke pieces can take approximately 10-12 weeks to create; it all depends on what other commissions are being worked on when we first chat.

This time frame includes the design process, stone sourcing, making the piece of jewellery and getting it hallmarked (that can currenlty has a two to three week turn around) then finally the work is delivered to you. From this beginning, with a few emails, phone calls or meetings I should have enough information to create some sketches to create something unique for you or your loved one.

So, when you are contemplating commissioning a piece of jewellery, please aim to give me as much detail as possible in the beginning, as this helps the design process move along swiftly. Please also note the possible lead time when thinking about commissioning gifts for those special events such a birthdays.

Oh my goodness! I am absolutely in love with my ring. It’s perfect! I am so pleased I was able to get to use the diamond and get it made into a set with my wedding band

Loved, loved, loved, meeting you yesterday plus slipping another ring into my collection - can never have enough DJL jewellery!

Love that some of my women are telling me they’ve bought pieces or want to - this makes my heart happy!

Twin Alexandrite Ring

Made for a client from their own 9ct gold and set with two Trillion cut Alexandrites. Alexandrites show both purple and green as the light plays through them.

Carnelian Canberra Ring

The client had seen me on the All That Gliiters TV show and then found the original Escher Camberra ring on my website. They are me to make a very similarly styled ring for them but with indivually cut Carnelians that I cut.

Pearl & Moissanite Ring

The client brought the pearl to me because they loved my Ottogano Collection. This is the ring I created for her based on that design. A gold and silver ring set with her pearl and six 2mm round-cut Moissanites

Garnet Eir Brooch

Made from the client’s own metals, plus the cabochon Garnet. The facetted Garnet was added at their request.

Aquamarine Brooch

The client had seen me get to the Semi-finals of BBC2’s All That Glitters, and asked me to take a gold earring of hers (set with an Aquamarine) and create a brooch for her brother that incorporated the gem and the gold.

Tiger Eye Brooch

The client wears very little jewellery. He wanted this Brooch to have a tribal feel to it and also a mid-century modern style.

Lapis Lazuli Ring

The client holds scissors in his hands all day and the ring he wanted had to be both showy, small enough not to stop them holding scissors correctly and also be masculine in the overall design.
