The Picasso Marble Darricarrere Pendant. Made as an open-back cast of oxidised, hallmarked Sterling Silver and set with a large, striped cabochon of lustrous Picasso Marble.

I bought the irregular shaped cabochon of Picasso Marble (also known as Picasso Jasper) from a supplier in the USA. I had been intrigued by the shape and the picture that seemed to be in the gemstone.

I had had it for some time and when I began the Darricarrere collection, and as I looked through the gems I had I wanted to find the ones that spoke to me to be a part of this group. This gem seemed perfect to emulate a piece of painted stained glass - as Darricarrere is all about stained glass.

The shape had to be simple and elegant to show the gem off properly and as it is polished on both the back and the front, I decided to make the back of the pendant open as well. Just simple holes alongside the gem to play against the marks in the gem and then oxidise the silver to sit with the darker colours of the Marble.

Sometimes it comes together very simply – sometimes it takes more time.

This pendant is 72mm tall, 37mm wide and 10mm deep.
