What you get

You’ll end up making a pendant with the option of adding a cabochonned gem of yours or one you can purchase during the day.

Itinerary

The workshops begin at 2.00pm, with tea or coffee and goodies and a brief chat and look through some example pieces and work made by David. This is followed by a talk on texturing and finishing a demonstration of how to manipulate and texture sterling silver. You are then shown how to use various tools and finally solder your pendant together and finish it in a variety of ways. Students begin by designing their pendant and are then given some sterling silver or other metals to work with.

The methods of working the silver includes forging using hammers and other tools such as teh rolling-mill. You’ll be annealing the metal with a blow-torch then cold-working the silver. The hot metal is quenched in Pickle (a diluted sulphuric acid) and then water after each annealing and then manipulated further towards the desired shape.

The workshops conclude at 5.30pm, but if needs be extend through to when each student finishes their ring – and you get to go home wearing what you made - bring your favourite chain to hang it on!
